Can anyone confirm if the Minnesota, Split Rock lightouse box is
still there? I see it is no longer accessible from the LbNA pages,
but the "Letterboxes at Lighthouses"
(http://www.harbourlights.com/links/letterboxing.htm) page still
lists it with an active LbNA clues page link.
Also, looking for possible confirmation on the Upper Michigan boxes,
particularly Marquette(2) and Iron Mountain(3).
Contemplating the possibility of a little road trip up this way and
don't want to go hunting around in the woods by myself for non-
existent treasure. Thanks!

Springchick,
The venerable Split Rock Letterbox is no longer in action. Our link was
removed at Dan'l's request.

Thanks Tom, I'll cross the Split Rock box off my list. Not too much
to choose from up this way... Earlier this summer we were on
vacation in Door County, WI, which would have been a veritable
letterbox feast (in mid-western terms), particularly since we visited
all of the places and trails where boxes are planted! If only we had
become familiar with the hobby before the trip and not a week after
our return.
I guess we are just going to have to do something about the lack of
boxes around here ;-) What's that they say, "If you build it, they
will come?"

We visited Iron Mountain this past spring and were able to locate 2 of the 3 boxes there. The Fumee
Creek spot makes for a nice stop by a waterfall with dwarf trees and neat rocks, but we searched for
an hour or more and could not find the box. Maybe it was the snow cover, maybe it was the fading
light, or maybe it isn't there. You might have better luck.
We also stopped at the Twelve Foot Falls box in northern Wisconsin. This place, too, has a neat
waterfall, but this time the letterbox hunt was pretty aggravating. The clues are so vague that we had
no idea where to begin and received no confirmation that we were completing each step of the clues
correctly. Despite the scenery, it was a frustrating visit.

Thanks for the info on the UP boxes Matt. Will try to get up there
and find those.
BTW, your Chicago letterboxes were our initiation -- our first two
boxes while visiting last weekend. Great locations. Thanks!
And as an aside... I have just finished carving my first stamp, and
at the risk of sounding totally arrogant, am quite pleased with the
effort, primitive though it may be. Anyone who thinks they are
hooked on this just hunting and planting boxes, try your hand at
carving a stamp... you will be hopelessly obsessed!

Which one is Fumee Creek? I remember looking a good long while at a
rest area June 2001 with no luck (and lots of poison ivy), but found
the other two in the area with no problems.

We just found the two boxes in Marquette and have just placed a third
one. (not yet posted--we're having someone test them first). We're
planning to look for the one in Copper Harbor on Tuesday and will let
you know what we find.
